Description

An antique Chinese camphor wood blanket chest from the early 20th century, with brass hardware, natural patina and dovetail construction. Created in China during the first quarter of the 20th century, this blanket chest features a rectangular lid opening thanks to a brass lock adorned with scalloped accents, to reveal an interior offering convenient storage opportunities. Camphor chests were originally used by the Chinese to store household items such as blankets and linen but later on for sea trade to transport tea, silk and porcelain to Europe.

The façade showcases a dovetail construction while the sides comprise of lateral C-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. The ensemble is resting on four simply carved bracket feet. With its nice proportions, natural patina and brass hardware, this Chinese camphor wood blanket chest circa 1920 will make for a charming addition to any home, placed in a bedroom at the foot of a bed, in a living room or child's room.
