Transplant or directly sow the acorn squash seeds for planting when the frost has passed and the weather has settled. Acorn squash seeds thrive in warm soil and have high germination rates that start within six to 12 days. Since these seeds produce bush-type plants, they will require a minimum of 18 inches spacing with 4 to 5 inches between rows. Growing acorn squash from seeds demands adequate soil drainage, crop rotation and excellent airflow. 

The fruits should be ready for harvest around 50 to 55 days after setting. It is best to harvest the squash before the frost when the leaves and vines begin to die off. Cut the fruit from the vine and store it in a dry space to avoid spoilage.
