This late 19th century Meiji period Kiri wood chest with sliding panels is a Tansu, a Japanese chest of drawers. This three section chest features three large drawers on its bottom and middle sections, all opening via iron bail handles. The upper section features three small drawers below two sliding panels opening to reveal two smaller inner drawers. The whole chest of drawers is made of Kiri, a Japanese wood commonly used for Tansu such as this. Iron hardware panels on each side and the bottom secure the various sections together.
