Born in China during the early years of the 20th century, this exquisite wooden corbel demonstrates the undeniable skill Chinese artists possessed at the time. Presenting two deities (possibly Zhong Kui and Guanyin), the corbel is adorned with an abundance of motifs. The male character on the left, holding a sword and a fan, adopts a nicely curving posture beautifully echoed by the female character on the right.
Accented with linear scrolls and a mythical animal in the lower section, this Chinese carved corbel, circa 1900 is mounted on a wooden base, making it a wonderful decorative object to be displayed anywhere in a home, from a foyer to a living room where it will be a great conversation piece.
