An antique Chinese document box from the early 20th century with dark red distressed lacquer and brass hardware. Created in China during the early years of the 20th century, this document box features a rectangular tapering lid with nicely distressed patina, opening thanks to a traditional brass lock on lotus backplate to reveal a compartmented interior. The façade showcases a recessed panel concealed behind a scalloped front. This panel is removable through the top and opens up the façade fully.
The box is raised on a simple rectangular plinth adding to its height, decorated with carved scalloped accents in the front. The sides showcase c-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. The ensemble boasts a nicely weathered patina revealing its age and use. With its clean lines, subtly carved décor and distressed lacquer, this Chinese document box from the early 20th century will make for a lovely addition to any home décor.
