Description

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period elm wood armchair from the 19th century with stick back, carved medallion and apron. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this elm wood armchair features a slightly out-scrolling stick back with humpback upper rail, adorned with two delicate hand-carved floral motifs interrupting the mid section. Connected to two arms of similar style, the back rests on a rectangular wooden seat showcasing typical knots and imperfections. Raised on four straight slightly splaying legs, the chair is adorned with a hand-carved apron in the front presenting incised foliage topping a cross-hatched motif, while the sides and back are simply scalloped.

The legs are strengthened with plain side stretchers or varying heights, giving additional visual interest to the ensemble. With its clean lines, delicately carved décor and warm brown patina, this 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty period elm wood armchair will make for a lovely addition to any home, perhaps displayed in a living room, bedroom or foyer.
